Human Rights violations in our backyard – a film showcase
Attended Right Through the Lens
“A Short Films Showcase.”
7:00 pm on Dec 4, 2008 at The Substation Theatre
I say,
Great films, great discussion. I doubt anyone could walk away unaffected, regardless of their points of views. 2 things hit me the hardest.
1. Singapore IS the SE Asian hub for human trafficking, but batam is our offshore stash yard.
2. There’s an incredible number of people in our neighbouring countries, in our backyard, in our spheres of influence, who rummage the garbage for their daily bread, from, the garbage heap that was cradle and grave for generations of families ……

All throughout, I was just feeling so incredibly helpless…..

“Right through the lens is a part of the U60 festival of events to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights launched in 1948. Through short films with a local or regional focus, Right through the lens will examine the question of human rights in contexts relevant to us in Singapore.
There will be discussion time after the screenings, which should make the event even more interesting and enlightening.”
